Trenches. Blood, rats and death everywhere. Joseph Titouenne suffered the horror of war with his companions in misfortune. On the front, Hans and Joseph meet by chance, enemies of the opposite camp. No more illusions about their fate, they resume the game from their childhood: they exchange their identities, their uniforms. Joseph then returned to Germany in Lunfeld, the broken face, greeted as a hero without knowing that Hans, a survivor too, has taken his place among his people, with Lisbeth.
