LA Requiem by Robert Crais: The chronic

Mamma mia, it's been long since I had not taken my foot as much as reading a good detective story. And then this ... I have rarely felt so much sadness for a fictional character. It's the magic of this novel which operates: LA Requiem highlights the humanity of her characters and manages to upset the reader. The goldsmith who became a writing lesson for writers still too many who are happy to fill the empty pages. A must for romance readers who say fans of the genre.

When Karen Garcia, daughter of the wealthy Frank Garcia, was found dead, shot in the head near withholding of Lake Hollywood, his father turned to detective Joe Pike, a former boyfriend of the victim and his partner Elvis Cole. But Pike is the bane of every cop in Los Angeles: one has forgotten his sensational return to the police, years earlier, after the mysterious death of his teammate during the arrest of a pedophile. In front line officers strangely uncooperative, Cole will make his own research ... Research that will lead him into the murky past of his partner and best friend. Pike is really involved in the ongoing case?

In the same vein, I urge another private detective novel, which I found equally excellent: Chicago Way by Michael Harvey .
